A man who lost his identity card last month suffered serious injuries after falling from the roof of his neightbour’s house in an attempt to escape from the authorities in Taman Peruna Sungai Udang in Malacca, early this morning.

National Registration Department (JPN) Investigation and Enforcement Division director Wan Zakaria Wan Awang said in the 1.50am incident, a 29-year-old man ran to the roof of his younger brother’s house before trying to jump to the neighbour’s house when he fell.

“From the JPN’s database, he was found to be a citizen but was held for further investigations,” he told reporters after an integrated operation involving JPN, Immigration Department and the National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK) in Malacca today.

However he said, a urine screening on the man from Kelantan found he tested positive for syabu.

He said 13 more foreigners were nabbed at the housing estate for various offences in a four-hour operation involving 85 enforcement personnel starting at 12 midnight.  

Wan Zakaria said from the total, an Indonesian woman and three Filipino men in their 30's were believed to be in possession of fake identity cards and were being investigated under the National Registration Regulations 1990 (Amended 2007).   

“The operation was launched following complaints by Taman Peruna residents  on the presence of foreigners,” he said.
