Sabah police have received 12 reports on the controversial Sabah secession issue, according to Sabah Police Commissioner Jalaluddin Abdul Rahman.
    
The state police have set up a task force and are working with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission to monitor the situation and activities that could potentially threaten national security.
    
"Sabah police have also prepared plans for any eventuality at rallies or processions in conjunction with Malaysia Day on Sept 16," he told reporters after the police monthly gathering in Kota Kinabalu yesterday.
 
He also issued a reminder to those who wished to organise rallies and processions to first obtain a permit from the police.
    
Earlier, Jalaluddin said the state's crime index between January and August this year has dropped by 359 cases or 9.1 percent, from 3,943 cases last year to 3,584.
    
He said between January and August this year, 1,698 or 47.38 per cent of reported cases were solved, as compared to 1,730 cases or 43.88 percent in the same period last year, a decrease of 3.5 percent.
    
House break-in cases also dropped by 243 cases, from 1,173 last year to 930 this year between January and August, a decrease of 20.72 percent.
    
Street crime recorded 275 cases between January and August last year, as compared to 263 in the same period this year, a decrease of 12 cases or 4.36 percent, he said.
