DAP's Bukit Gasing assemblyperson Rajiv Rishyakaran today filed a request under the Selangor state Freedom of Information Act (FoI) to pressure the state to release the water restructuring it agreement with the federal government.

Rajiv's ( left ) request means that the state has up to 30 days to reveal the deal under the Act, or to explain reason if it decides otherwise.

He said much details of the water deal remain unknown, and the state should reveal this crucial information.

"For example, water tariffs. We need to know if there will be a raise in water tariffs.

"We also want to know how the state will manage the water concessionaires without Splash, because Splash's takeover has not been agreed yet," Rajiv told reporters at the lobby of the Selangor state assembly today.

“This is the biggest agreement the state has entered into to date and it is fair that the details are revealed,” Rajiv said.

Rajiv said this is “one time” that he was “glad” the state had passed the FOI law several years ago, so that it enables requests such as these.

“I’m hoping to get an answer by this week. If the state refuses to disclose the details, I will take it up to an appeal panel because the Act has that option. I will fight my case,” he said.

The state government is set to sign the RM 9.65 billion deal soon to take over the state’s water concessionaires.
