Parliamentary opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim said developments in the current two months have demonstrated an acute lack of consensus on shared values between the parties.

 

Anwar said this situation had then flared into open disputes and unwarranted washing of dirty linen in public.

 

He emphasised that Pakatan leaders must subscribe to the principles of the country's principles of rule of law, parliamentary democracy and respect for constitutional monarchy.

 

"People are beginning to question if our words and actions do indeed reflect those shared values and perspectives, "Anwar said in his keynote speech at Penang Institute's 'Federalism in Malaysia: Design and Practice' in George Town today.

 

"Some are convinced that the rhetoric spewed by some leaders actually run contrary to our shared values and principles," added the PKR de facto leader.

 

Anwar was referring to the current Selangor crisis where PKR's choice of Menteri Besar - its president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail ( left ) - has been stalled by the Selangor ruler who insists on Pakatan parties including DAP and PAS, to submit more than one name for the post.

 

Only PAS has complied with the request while DAP and PKR are adamant in submitting one name which has invoked the dissatisfaction of the sultan.

 

PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang has expressed his disagreement with Azizah's appointment as MB, leading the way for a massive conflict between the party with PKR and DAP.

 

The new menteri besar will replace Khalid Ibrahim who has been sacked by PKR last month for allegations of lack of integrity which the one-term MB has vehemently denied.
