The Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan) seized five wild animals kept without special permits and licence, at a house in Taman Melaka Baru in Malacca.

Malacca Wildlife Department director Noorzakiahanum Mohd Noh said the seizure was conducted by an enforcement team on Monday based on intelligence and information from the public.

She said the animals seized were a Ball python, Batik python, Albino python, a Copper Head Racer snake and an iguana.

“We are still investigating if the animals were captured as pets or to be sold,” she told Bernama when contacted in Malacca yesterday.    

Noorzakiahanum said the house owner failed to produce valid documents for each animal.

She said the case was being investigated under Section 60 of the Wildlife Conservation Act 2010, which carries a fine of up to RM50,000 or imprisonment of not more than two years, or both, if convicted.
