P KUBOR Pengkalan Kubor Independent candidate Izat Bukhary Ismail Bukhary has denied his contest is being sponsored by any quarters.

Izat, 47 ( left ), claimed he has been using his own money to contest since the last general election in 2013.

"I want to dispel (everyone's suspicions). This Independent candidate does not represent any (party).

"It's not easy to run again (after GE13)," he told reporters last night when met at a coffeeshop in Pengkalan Kubor.

Izat, who has forced a three-cornered fight with PAS' Wan Rosdi Wan Ibrahim and BN's Mat Razi Mat Ail in the Kelantan by-election, is widely speculated to be a spoiler.

The by-election is held following the death of Umno assemblyperson Noor Zahidi Omar, 57, from liver cancer on Aug 20.

In the last general election in 2013, Noor Zahidi defeated PKR candidate Saharun Ibrahim and Izat, with a 1,736-vote majority.

Biggest pen to draw votes

When asked about his election strategy, Izat said he plans to go house to house.

"I like to meet with the individuals. It's house to house for now, I cannot afford to go far," he said.

"I will not hold ceramah because I prefer to talk to the individual," he added.

As a highlight of his campaign, he plans to draw attention with a contest for the villages in the constituency to make the biggest pen, his election logo.

"I want to run a contest to create a pen that is the biggest and most creative," said the father of seven, adding he has prepared a prize for the winner.
