The police hope to wrap up next week their investigation into the leak of the Science and English examination papers of this year's Primary School Achievement Test (UPSR), Kuala Lumpur CID chief SAC Gan Kong Meng said today.

He said the police were in the process of completing the probe for submission to the attorney-general.

"We have conducted a thorough investigation and hope to wrap up next week," he told Bernama when contacted.

Gan said that up to yesterday, 14 individuals, 12 of them teachers, had been remanded to assist in the investigation. The two others were an insurance agent and an engineer.

He also said that 22 individuals had been asked to give statements, six of them being officers from the Malaysian Examinations Syndicate; one, a journalist; one, an insurance agent; one, an engineer and 13, teachers.

Following the detection of the leak, English papers 014/1 and 014/2 were cancelled after pupils had sat for the papers on Sept 11, while the examination for the Science 018, 028 and 038 papers was postponed before students could sit for them on the same day.

The Examinations Syndicate has fixed Sept 30 as the new date for the examinations in the two subjects.
