Dismissing claims that Anwar Ibrahim has backed down, PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution said the opposition leader has not compromised on the candidate for the Selangor menteri besar post.

In a statement, he said Anwar and PKR's choice for the post has not changed, it is still party president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, though at this stage, the possibility of her helming the state is considered impossible.

"Any news alleging that Anwar agreed in writing to a compromise and other such news were inaccurate," he added in a brief media statement today.

This follows speculation that Anwar may concede to PKR deputy president Azmin Ali becoming the next MB.

Meanwhile, Saifuddin said PKR's decision is based on the Selangor state enactments and the system of constitutional monarchy.

"It is not fair for any news to be distributed to give the impression that we have moved away from that position,"  he added.

The new MB for Selangor is expected to be sworn in on Tuesday  and with less than 48 hours left, the sultan has yet to grant Wan Azizah an audience.

Yesterday, it was reported that PKR is discussing a " plan B " if someone else is appointed apart from Wan Azizah.

It was also reported that the sultan had interviewed three potential candidates, including Azmin. The other two being Selangor PAS chief Iskandar Samad and PAS rep Yunus Hairi.
