As the clock ticks down for the swearing-in ceremony of the new Selangor menteri besar slated for Tuesday, an NGO representing Selangor residents with Javanese heritage has endorsed PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail for the post.

Even though Wan Azizah's chances of becoming MB is now slim, Ikatan Jawa Sejiwa Selangor (iJawa) said she has all the qualifications required to be MB, including a majority at the state assembly.

iJawa's secretary-general Jamali Salamon however said that the NGO will accept whatever decision of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah.

"We are quite confident about the appointment of Wan Azizah, a people's leader who has gone through so much for the sake," he added in a statement.

He also said that the practiced convention in appointing a government "must be adhered to", and that any MB must have a majority in the state assembly and also get consent from the state ruler.

He said that with her appointment, Selangor will become clean, developed and a welfare state.

The PKR president had been put forth by her party as the sole candidate for the MB post but after weeks of imbroglio, the sultan is expected to choose a different state assembly member to become MB.
