DAP should remember that it is in the Selangor government before criticising its previous administration, said MCA Youth chief Chong Sin Woon.

He pointed out that DAP is the largest political party in the state’s legislature, of which four of its elected representatives have become exco members under former menteri besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim’s leadership, and one become the speaker of the House.

DAP and PAS have 15 assemblypersons each in Selangor, while PKR has 13 since Khalid was sacked from the party last month. Khalid is the sole Independent representative, while the remaining 12 seats are held by Umno.

Thus, the senator said, DAP is also at fault for any mistakes made during the previous administration, and it should not blame others for it.

“It is wrong for them to try and pin the blame solely on PKR and PAS. However, this is not surprising as DAP has always been known for pushing the blame to others, especially BN.

“I urge (DAP Selangor chief) Tony Pua ( right ) to remember that DAP is no longer in the opposition, but are now part of the state government. As such they should do their duty to fight for the people’s rights instead of only making statements on their disagreement in the media,” Chong said in a statement today.

He was responding to Pua’s statement lauding Azmin Ali’s appointment as the new menteri besar yesterday, which said, “With the appointment of Azmin, the new government has been given a fresh start to succeed where the previous administration has failed, and to achieve a higher level of success than Pakatan Rakyat did in the first five years of our administration from 2008-2013.”

Chong contrasted Pua’s statements with praises that the latter gave Khalid during the 13th general election campaign last year, including being financially prudent and amassing a reserve of over RM3 billion.

“Therefore, if Pua and DAP are really serious about a fresh start for Selangor, I strongly recommend that they relook their own policies and election promises to look after the people’s welfare first, instead of constantly politicising issues for their own personal benefits,” he said.
