Police have obtained a three-day remand order for activist Ali Abdul Jalil, 29, for allegedly posting an insulting post against police and the royal institution.

He has reportedly been remanded in Johor Baru under Section 4(1)(a) of the Sedition Act 1948.

National newswire Bernama quoted his lawyer New Sin Yew as saying that his client is remanded following a police report lodged on June 11, 2013.

Ali, who already faces three separate sedition charges, was taken to Johor Baru yesterday soon after he posted bail for one of the earlier charges at the Shah Alam court.

He was bailed out after spending more than two weeks in detention, following his initial charging on Sep 8.

According to NGO coalition Gerakan Hapus Akta Hasutan, he was denied access to legal counsel for most of his detention and has claimed that he was verbally and physically abused during interrogation.

He has been charged with insulting the Selangor sultan in a Facebook posting.
