A total of 25,000 head of cattle is being prepared to meet the needs of the Aidiladha celebration on Oct 5, said Deputy Agriculture and Agro-Based Industries Minister Tajuddin Abdul Rahman.

Half of the number was local stock and the remainder had been imported from Thailand, Australia and Myanmar, he said.

“The number is sufficient and Muslims need not worry (about any shortage),” he told a press conference after a ceremony to launch the ministry-level 2014 Innovation Day celebration in Putrajaya today.

He said the ministry would ensure adequate supply of beef for the festival, and cited the example of last year’s celebration where there were no complaints of insufficient supply.

Earlier, in his speech, Tajuddin said the ministry staff as well as those of the departments and agencies under it should perform their duties well to meet the demands of the target group.

“We have to think of how to implement a transformation which would give better results to the target group,” he said.
