The Malacca City Council (MBMB) has been ordered to pay RM60,000 for costs after it lost a civil suit against the state MCA Wanita chief Kian Sit Har and DAP's Ayer Keroh state assemblyperson Khoo Poay Tiong who participated in the Bersih rally.

MBMB had filed a suit against the duo for allegedly causing damage to public property during the Bersih 3.0 rally at Dataran Pahlawan, Malacca, on April 28, 2012, which was part of a nation-wide rally with the leading protest held at Dataran Merdeka, Kuala Lumpur.

The Malacca Sessions Court yesterday ruled that MBMB failed to prove the duo were responsible for the alleged damages, according to Sinar Harian.

Judge Zaman Mohd Noor ordered MBMB to pay RM30,000 each to Kian and Khoo.

The duo was quoted as saying that they would use the money for charity.

Kian had raised eyebrows after she broke ranks with MCA and participated in the Bersih protest.

The government had likewise filed a civil suit against 10 Bersih steering committee members for the main protest in Kuala Lumpur, demanding RM122,000 in repair costs. The case is still ongoing.
