Sabah Pensiangan Umno division chief Abdul Ghani Mohd Yasin admitted he was called by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) last Friday to give statement on a case.  

Nonetheless, Ghani, who is now back in Kota Kinabalu, when contacted declined to comment on the case.

“I received a call from MACC on Wednesday when I was in Kuala Lumpur with my son. I received another call on the same evening asking me if I could attend.

“On Friday, I voluntarily went to meet them (MACC) in Kota Kinabalu,” he said when contacted by Bernama today.

Today the Daily Express in Sabah reported that an Umno division head in the state was arrested by MACC at the KL International Airport last Thursday for criminal breach of trust (CBT) involving RM300 million.

Nonetheless, Abdul Ghani denied he was arrested and that he gave his statements voluntarily and cooperated with MACC officers instead.

Elaborating further, he said, the case was still in its initial stage and requested all parties not to make wild speculations so as not to jeopardise investigations.

Meanwhile, Sabah Chief Minister Musa Aman also urged all quarters not to speculate on MACC investigations on a Sabah Umno division chief.

He said to be fair to the individual concerned, any speculation or assumption that the individual was guilty should be avoided as the matter was still being investigated.       

“I do not have any details on the case. We are a transparent government and have nothing to hide,” said Musa who is Sabah Umno liaison committee head in a statement today.

Musa urged all parties to allow the MACC to conduct its duties responsibility.
