The rat menace at Universiti Sains Malaysia  Hospital and Health Campus in Kubang Kerian has been resolved thanks to proactive action by the management and Kota Baru Municipal Council.

State Local Government, Housing, Health and Environment Committee chairperson Abdul Fattah Mahmood, said USM has appointed a private company to collect garbage twice daily, at 7am and 7pm.

“USM has allocated RM100,000 since October last year to September this year for the purpose," he told reporters after the state exco meeting in Kota Baru yesterday.

Based on reports received, Desa Siswa Nurani cafeteria on the campus, which was previously infested with rats, has been given a grade A status.

“Universiti Sains Malaysia Hospital has also introduced the ‘no garbage after 10pm’ concept to avoid garbage lying around and becoming breeding ground for rats,” he said.

USM has also blocked all rat access passages and holes to prevent rats from inhabiting, besides using control measures such poison in suitable areas.
