PAS information chief Mahfuz Omar has questioned the government's decision to reduce fuel subsidies for RON95 and diesel at a time when the price of raw oil has actually plummeted.

 

The Pokok Sena MP said that the global oil price is now at only US$90.73 a barrel, compared to US$103 a barrel just back in July.

 

"I request the government to explain why when the global oil prices have come  down, it has decided to increase oil prices instead," he told Malaysiakini .

 

He said that the reduction of oil prices should have brought "good news" to Malaysians.

 

Meanwhile, Sarawak PAS flayed the government for its surprise fuel price hike just days before the nation celebrates Hari Raya Aidiladha.

Sarawak PAS deputy commissioner Jofri Jaraiee ( right ) in a statement today noted that this is the second hike since last year, made after BN won the 13th general election.

“While the time the Muslims want to celebrate the Eid Qurban, or more commonly known as Eid al-Adha, we are suddenly shocked by  rising prices  of RON95 petrol and diesel by 20 sen a litre.

“On Sept 2, 2013, RON95 and diesel prices were also increased by 20 sen,” he said.

Jofri lamented that the fuel hike will inevitably snowball into rising prices of goods and services.

“When the price of petrol rises, certainly the cost of other essentials will also increase due to the supply chain management - the management of flow of goods.

“It includes the movement and storage of raw materials, work-in-process inventory, and finished goods from point of origin to point of consumption...

“Indirectly, all the prices of essential goods will go up due to increase in prices of petrol and diesel,” Jofri asserted.
