Former Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim is planning to vacate his state seat soon, according to Malay daily Sinar Harian Online today. 

 

Quoting sources "close to Khalid", the report said Khalid intends to resign as Independent Port Klang assemblyperson soon after returning from the sabbatical he has been on since resigning as Selangor MB several weeks ago.

 

The report however makes no mention of whether Khalid will do likewise with his Bandar Tun Razak parliamentary seat.

 

If the report is accurate it would mean another state by-election in Selangor after its first by-election in Kajang earlier this year, ironically orchestrated to replace Khalid as MB.

 

Sinar quoted the source as saying Khalid plans to resign before the state assembly convenes again in November.

 

However, Selangor speaker Hannah Yeoh was quoted in the same report saying she has not received any notice about Khalid's resignation.

 

"I have not received any document from him," Sinar quoted Yeoh saying.

Meanwhile, Abdul Khalid's former political secretary Faekah Husin has denied that the former menteri besar would be vacate his state constituency, according to an Oriental Daily report.

 

Khalid was sent to contest the Port Klang state seat in last year's general election, moving out of his previous state constituency Ijok.

 

He however defended and retained his Bandar Tun Razak parliamentary seat.

 

He resigned as MB last month after six years in office, but not before two months of political turbulence in Selangor following his refusal to follow his party's decision to replace him with president Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.

 

He was finally expelled from PKR in August due to his refusal to step down as MB.

His resignation from the seat might disqualify him from contesting at the next elections according to election rules, effectively signalling an end to his political career.
