Police have detained the woman, believed to be mentally unstable, who stabbed a Rapid Penang bus driver in the right leg at Relau in George Town yesterday.

Timur Laut police chief ACP Mior Faridalatrash Wahid said the 48-year-old woman was detained at 7.30am near Paya Terubong.

“Police detained the woman while she was about to board a Rapid Penang bus and seized a knife, believed to be the weapon used to stab the driver critically, yesterday. She will be remanded for four days,” he said in George Town today.

During the 7am incident yesterday, the woman had stabbed the driver of a Rapid Penang bus, Aisyamudin Yaacoob, 27, who had started working with the bus company just two weeks ago, for allegedly missing the stop where she had wanted to alight in Paya Terubong.

Mior Faridalatrash said the driver has yet to regain consciousness at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Penang Hospital.
