The hiring of professionals to solve the flash floods hitting Kuala Lumpur  is not feasible, says Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) director-­general Mohd Amin Nordin.
 
"Solving the flash flood issues in the city is not easy as it involves many parties. Different departments work on different areas.
 
"Lim needs to understand that DBKL does not handle them all," Mohd Amin said when contacted by Malaysiakini yesterday.

He was responding to  DAP’s Segambut MP Lim Lip Eng's proposal that professionals be hired by the council to solve the flash floods in the city.  

 
Lim had accused DBKL of not knowing how to handle the flash flood problems in Kuala Lumpur and said that it should outsource contracts to professionals instead.
 
Mohd Amin said that the different departments meet up every month to come up with solutions. 

He, however, declined to comment on what the solutions are.

 
He also reiterated that DBKL is not responsible for the floods as they are a "natural disaster".
 
Mohd Amin said the "people must be aware if they are parking their vehicles in a flood­prone area".
 
"DBKL is not responsible to compensate the damages caused by the flash flood if the vehicles are parked on private grounds.
 
"If they still want to counter it, they can always hire a lawyer," said Amin.
 
After an hour­ long downpour on Oct 1, flash floods hit several major roads in the Kuala Lumpur city centre, causing much damage.

Malay ­language tabloid Kosmo tweeted that more than 100 vehicles were damaged by the floods at Jalan Pinang.

 
Mohd Amin then had said that the Drainage and Irrigation Department, waste concessionaire Alam Flora and several other departments were joining hands to solve the flood problems plaguing the city.
