Lawyer K. Raja Segaran has not decided whether he will proceed with legal action to stop the extraordinary general meeting of the Bar next Friday.

When contacted by malaysiakini today, Raja Segaran confirmed that he has received a letter from the Bar Council notifying him of their decision to proceed with the meeting despite his objections but he is unsure as to whether he would apply for an injunction from the courts to stop the meeting.

"We are considering the options and have not arrived at a firm decision (on whether to take legal action)," he said. "We will make a decision sometime later this week."

Raja Segaran had, on Monday, lodged a protest with the Bar Council over the holding of the EGM which he claims would be ultra-vires the Legal Profession Act and would be contemptuous and seditious and threatened to seek legal recourse if the meeting was not called off.

However, Bar Council president Sulaiman Abdullah had stated that the meeting will proceed as planned as the council found that the concerns raised by Raja Segaran did not arise with regards to the meeting or its proposed resolution calling for the establishment of a tribunal or royal commission of inquiry to investigate into allegations of impropriety by Chief Justice Eusoff Chin.

Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad yesterday described the EGM and its proposed resolution as being politically motivated and a ploy to cause a rift between.the government and the judiciary.
