Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak has condemned the explosion at a nightclub in Bukit Bintang this morning, which killed a car jockey and injured 13 others.

 

"I condemn in the strongest terms the violence that occurred this morning in Bukit Bintang.

"Such lawlessness will not be tolerated," he said in a brief statement this evening.

Najib, whose administration has been severely criticised by certain quarters, including those within his party, for repealing the Internal Security Act, said police investigation is under way.

"The perpetrators of this crime will be found and brought to justice," he said.

The police believe that the early morning explosion at the Sun Complex was related to a gangland feud.

It was reported that some of the victims were about to enter a vehicle when the explosive device, which is said to be a grenade, fell onto them from the second floor of a building.

The case has been classified as attempted murder under the Firearms Act.

Meanwhile, Deputy Home Minister Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar said that the investigation would focus on all angles, including whether the attack was related to terrorism.
