Better for Nancy to say Ibrahim is above the law

YOURSAY ‘What will happen if a non-Muslim say that he will burn the Quran?’

No action on Ibrahim Ali for Bible-burning threat

Malaccan: Since Minister in the PM’s Department Nancy Shukri is from East Malaysia, let them respond to her continuing as their MP.

But as to her reasoning, it begs the question if she is of sound mind or has any human values at all to suggest it is alright to threaten the burning of bibles as a method of defending Islam.

Who was threatening Islam? Was the act of distributing bibles to Muslims ever identified or proven beyond Perkasa chief Ibrahim Ali's imagination or excuse to scandalise the nation? It would be more reasonable to say Ibrahim is threatening Islam by his antics.

Nancy is justifying an act of terrorism and should be totally condemned as someone devoid of sanity or humanity. She is on par with other international criminals in her values and understanding of human rights.

By her standards, others can now threaten to burn the Quran because there have been ample proven and public cases of other religions being threatened by Muslims in Malaysia not least by muftis and even state rulers, and especially by Umno leaders and members.

Negarawan: "His (Ibrahim) statement was not meant to cause religious disharmony but was only meant to defend the sanctity of Islam,” Nancy said.

This is a totally illogical and unacceptable response from an obviously dud minister. With this type of religiously biased and bigoted reasoning, any Muslim extremist in Malaysia can say and do anything against other religions and be above the law because the culprits are "defending the sanctity of Islam".

What will happen if a non-Muslim say that he will burn the Quran to "protect the sanctity" of his own religion?

Shame to Nancy and the Umno government for such an irresponsible and bigoted position. I am sure all right-minded non-Muslims and Muslims are shocked and highly disturbed by such a politically-motivated statement by the Umno government.

It is even more shocking that the Christian and other non-Muslim ministers in BN have not condemned this statement.

Gerard Lourdesamy: Is there proof that the bibles were distributed to Muslim students in schools? No. If not, those caught distributing the bibles would have been charged.

So it is perfectly alright for Ibrahim Ali to defend the sanctity of Islam by calling for the burning of bibles without even first establishing that the bibles were indeed being distributed to Muslim students?

Does that now mean that without proof, Christians can defend the sanctity of their religion by calling for the burning of the al-Quran simply because there have been alleged attempts to convert East Malaysian Christians in UiTM and other Mara residential colleges?

It’s better for Nancy to just say that Ibrahim Ali is above the Sedition Act because he is Umno's hatchet man.

For a minister from Sarawak where 60 percent of the population is Christian, the minister's reply is demeaning to both Muslims and Christians alike.

You do not defend a religion by denigrating another religion and calling for the burning of sacred scriptures.

Speaking Sense: Nancy, you make me really ashamed to be a Sarawakian. I know PM Najib Razak's cabinet has set a new low standard, but Nancy is beginning to suggest she can't even meet this low standard.

Does she realise that she is saying I can threaten to do anything to anyone as long as my intention is to defend the sanctity of my religion?

Now, this sounds very seditious because it is encouraging everyone to resort to violence in the name of religion. So would Nancy say she should be charged for sedition also?

Anonymous #06188481: Defending Islam means saying all the beautiful things about Islam, not saying bad things about other religions, and that hearers may be convinced about the goodness of Islam.

Worse still, Ibrahim is encouraging the public to burn someone else’s religious book. And Nancy, by all accounts this is seditious to the core.

Dont Just Talk: When Ibrahim makes seditious statements like asking for the Malay-language Bible to be burn, he is only defending the sanctity of Islam but when opposition leaders, NGO activists and university lecturers make rationale statements, they are being seditious.

Any wonder why Barisan Nasional parties are losing popularity? It is because of BN leaders are blind.

Like Nancy, they can see nothing, hear nothing and in this instance, talk loads of rubbish.

Multi Racial: It’s time for the government to come clean. They either have to withdraw all the charges they have made so far or charge Ibrahim Ali and all Umno leaders and their supporters for sedition.

We are against the Sedition Act. But if they have to be used, it has to be fairly implemented.  Like what former PM Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said, good law use wrongly is bad.

In this case, bad law used wrongly is even worse.

Nancy’s defence of Ibrahim Ali ‘nonsensical’
