Umno Youth has condemned the action of a protester who held up a slipper next to the image of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak during a protest outside the Parliament building on Wednesday.

The wing’s executive council member Armand Adha Abu Hanifah described it as insolent and rude.

Furthermore, Armand said, the protester’s action during the anti-fuel hike and anti-GST protest violated the Peaceful Assembly Act and tainted the democratic practice.

“This man’s rude behaviour does not help in establishing harmony in the nation.

“He does not respect the laws of the nation or the right to peacefully assemble,” he added in an Umno Online report.

Armand (right) also described the protesters, who were opposing the hike in fuel prices and implementation of the goods and gervices tax (GST) next year, as “tools” and “puppets” of Pakatan Rakyat.

He said these people are used to deliberately raise issues to garner public sympathy via demonstrations that bring no benefit.

“We have democratic channels and a parliamentary system. They (the opposition) also have representatives in Parliament.

“If they don’t know how to use diplomatic channels, then do not betray the trust of those who elected them by holding street demonstrations,” he added.

As for Pakatan leaders, Armand said if they intentionally ignored the diplomatic channels, then they should resign and allow those who were more responsible to take over.
