Ambiga, tell them this is just a 'suggestion', too

YOURSAY ‘I have a few things to suggest. Will I be charged if I did?’

Ambiga: Probing me for sedition may be good

Anonymous_1408265047: Former Bar Council chairperson Ambiga Sreenevasan is highly regarded in Malaysia and around the world.

Her work and her valour have been recognised with the highest honours elsewhere. However, sadly, not in Malaysia.

In the event that she is charged with sedition, countries like the United States, Britain and Australia will take a great interest.

Expect the spotlight to be squarely focused on Malaysia. If there is any funny business, the world will know about it.

Nil: May I suggest that mere words, whether spoken or written, are not seditious unless they have, in fact, brought about seditious events negatively affecting the community. As such, all those current sedition charges should be cancelled.

Odysseus: In future, anyone who wishes to make any statement, please start by clearly stating "This is a suggestion only" and continue to say what you want.

Before ending your speech, please don't forget to remind the audience, journalists, etc, that your whole speech was merely a suggestion.

Anonymous_3e06: Are the police saying we have a right to suggest, because I have a few things to suggest. Will I be charged if I did?

FutureMalaysians: So much of time and resources are being used on these so-called sedition cases.

Why can't the government meet these people face to face to thrash out the issues so that time and resources can be saved for the sake of nation? Mr PM, can you think about it?

Optimist: Ambiga, your clarity on the issues of the day, and bravery in the face of threats from the hooligans, is much to be admired and emulated. Thank you for being a beacon for all right-thinking rakyat.

Sodom Me Sodom You: The nation is proud of you, madam. Stay strong in the knowledge that we are humbled by your fortitude and your vision of a better Malaysia. God bless and keep you safe always.

Evil: When the truth speaks, hell will break loose. Madam, go for it, for you will stand the tallest and most admirable, putting to shame all crooks who proclaim to speak God's language. Curses be upon them.

Fateh: No wonder the robbers and thieves are so bold and daring. All the police force and law enforcement agencies are focusing their energy and resources on going after the opposition parties and anyone who is against Umno.

CQ Muar: PM Najib Abdul Razak in his Budget speech may be announcing the Sedition Act dragnet to be further expanded in order to accommodate and rope in more, especially those in opposition of the government and Umno leaders.

Even past critics who made insinuations or mere comments about the murder of Mongolian woman Altantuya Shariibuu and the Scorpene scandal will come under the purview of such suspicion.

By extension, those who criticised Najib or even his beloved wife Rosmah Mansor for alleged personal shopping sprees around the world and the use of a government jet will not be spared.

Therefore, Malaysiakini commenters and readers, please brace in readiness for action, and be prepared as you'll be next on the dragnet call-up lists. Fun times, my fellow subscribers of Malaysiakini .

Fairplayer: Welcome to Seditionland where nothing else matters except to sedate and mute those who dare to expose the corrupt and evil practices in the Umno-led government.

But the destructive words and remarks by Umnoputras or their pall-bearers are only deemed as "suggestions" and "intentions", while the truth their critics say is "sedition".

And Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Nancy Shukri dared to claim that the latest spates of sedition-related charges and arrests are not politically motivated or racist in nature.

Senior: What is seditious is not defined under the Sedition Act but by the godfather to the men in blue.

Single Malt: Why not charge all the 52 percent of the electorate who voted against the government with sedition and sentence them so that they lose their voting rights in the next two or three general elections?

Ketuanan Rakyat: Well said, Ambiga. Let the truth come out if they dare to charge you.

Louis: Ambiga, you are truly a patriot. The champion of the weak and voiceless. If you are charged, most probably US President Barack Obama might send First Lady Michelle to be an observer, and you really deserve such attention.

Mohican: There are unjust laws as there are unjust men.

Hmmmmmmmm: Recently, I watched a programme on the History Channel entitled ‘Caligula - 1,400 days of terror’.

It was really shocking that he used threats of false charges against senators who were against him, killed those who opposed him and bribed the army general and soldiers to get them on his side.

For good measure, he even climbed on top of a tall structure and threw coins to the public to ingratiate them to him.

I'm so glad that these things don't happen in this country.
