A PKR-linked NGO has reminded Lensa Anak Muda Malaysia (Lensa) that Anwar Ibrahim’s fight is not futile but rather, one which is linked to the people’s struggle.

Jingga13 coordinator Fariz Musa, in response to Lensa’s call yesterday for Anwar to retire, criticised the NGO for not recognising Anwar’s role in Malaysia’s struggle for democracy.

“Lensa’s statement truly shows the disappointment and the weakness of young people who do not know Anwar as the country’s ‘father of reformasi’.

“Where were you, you who have never experienced the people’s struggle led by reformists 16 years ago, which young people like you have benefitted from?” Fariz ( right ) said in a statement yesterday.

Lensa’s hard-hitting statement released yeterday said people were "tired" of Anwar’s leadership and his never-ending court cases, which end up victimising the rakyat by further dragging them into “dirty politics".

Fariz said that many have expressed their sympathy and were unwilling to see Anwar wrongfully imprisoned for the “slander” against him.

“Anwar has been tormented for choosing to be with the rakyat. He could have chosen wealth and be in cahoots with BN, but he chose to fight BN’s cruel regime,” Fariz added.
