Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak will attend the swearing-in of Indonesia’s new president Joko Widodo in Jakarta tomorrow.

A Foreign Ministry statement said today Najib would be accompanied by his wife, Rosmah Mansor, and officials from the Prime Minister’s Office and the ministry.

“The (swearing-in) ceremony will take place on Oct 20 at the People’s Consultative Assembly,” the statement said, adding that six heads of state or government would be among the 18 foreign dignitaries scheduled to attend the inauguration.

The statement said Najib would take the opportunity of his working visit to Jakarta to meet with Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott and United States Secretary of State John Kerry who are scheduled to attend the inauguration as well.

Jakarta Governor Joko Widodo, widely known as Jokowi, won the hotly contested Indonesian presidential election on July 22, beating Prabowo Subianto, a retired army general.

He takes over from Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, who has been in office since 2004.
