Shah Alam Hospital is expected to start its operations next year with the delivery and certification of facilities and equipment in full swing now.

Health Minister Dr S Subramaniam said in Shah Alam today that the 2,300 rooms at the RM410 million hospital complex required thorough inspection and the equipment to be tested to ensure they would function well.

“Hopefully the delivery and certification process for the facilities and equipment will be completed in the next five months.

“The department involved in building the hospital complex will apply to the Shah Alam City Council for the Certificate of Compliance and Completion,” he said.

Subramaniam was speaking to reporters after visiting the hospital project, which is now 94 percent completed and in the final stages of beautification before being opened to the public.

According to him, the hospital should have commenced operations in 2011 but failed to be ready on time and hence a new contractor was appointed to complete the project.

Meanwhile, he said the assets control system whether for hospital buildings or equipment needed to be tightened as these government-owned assets were costly.

Dr Subramaniam said for assets control, the government had to emphasise the use of the latest sophisticated technology as the system currently in use was rather outdated.
