Residents of the Teratai Apartments in Taman Bunga Raya whose homes were affected by the landslide in the area, are expected to be allowed to return home either on Sunday or Monday.

Hulu Selangor District Officer Ahmad Suaidi Abdul Rahim said the permission would be given if the Public Works Department (PWD) confirmed that there was no new earth movement in the areas.

“Work to install the steel barrier piles by the PWD are expected to be completed tomorrow and close monitoring will be continued for 24 hours to ensure there is no more earth movement,” he told reporters when met at the location of incident today.

At present, he said, 289 families with 1,163 individuals who lived in Block K and L were moved to the temporary shelters following the landslide which occurred last Monday.

He said the PWD had put up canvas at the location of the landslide to prevent water from seeping through.

The PWD would remove the eroded earth to level off the slope and reduce the burden of the earth at the location of the landslide, he said.

“Initial observations show that the structure of Block K and L at Teratai Apartments is still safe for dwelling,” he said.

He said a special committee would be formed soon comprising the PWD, Hulu Selangor District Office, Department of Drainage and Irrigation, Tenaga Nasional Berhad and other relevant agencies to find a permanent solution to the problem of landslides in the area.
