The Terengganu Felda Youth Council has urged the Federal Land Development Authority (Felda) to review the price of houses for second generation Felda settlers in the state.

Council chairperson Mohd Fauzi Mat Adam hoped Felda would ensure the price of housing was affordable to the second generation settlers.

"We want Felda to study the best mechanism in determining the lowest and most appropriate price for the houses as promised by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, four years ago, at the Felda New Generation Assembly.

"Currently, these houses are going to be offered for RM120,000 a unit, but it is said that some will reach RM200,000, subject to additional costs and its location and this will burden the second generation of Felda settlers," he said in a statement in Kemaman today.

Mohd Fauzi said Felda needed to exemplify several state governments which had implemented the affordable housing scheme (RMM) which cost between RM70,000 and RM95,000.

"In this state, for example, Menteri Besar Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman announced that the price of affordable homes in Terengganu would be reduced from RM73,000 to RM68,000, while monthly payment was also reduced from RM323 to RM189," he added.

He said there was worry the second generation of settlers would not want to stay at Felda settlements if housing there was expensive.
