What will they go after next, Christmas?

YOURSAY 'I am beginning to think that the country is being ruled by the likes of Isma, not BN.'

Dog event organisers versus pseudo‑scientists

Not Smart: After having read this article and the Bernama report (‘Dog event folk ‘crave attention’, says psychologist’), it appears that both the PSIM president Dr Rozmi Ismail and UMMC psychiatrist Dr Muhammad Muhsin had mortgaged their professionalism for 'political' interests.

If this is so, it is very unhealthy and dangerous as this is a sign that intellectuals holding high and responsible positions are putting their personal interest before the public's interest. This may be so because to safeguard their positions and perks at the expense of the rakyat.

Dr Rozmi and Dr Muhammad should spend time to read this article by a PhD student as it may add‑on to the some knowledge of theirs. Happy weekend reading.

Kerana Benar : Dr Rozmi and Dr Muhamad are both kangkung professors, the products of Umno. Malu lah (shame), making a scientific statement without solid evidence. SPM students also can make such comments as they have.

Kit Carson: These are probably school dropout PhD holders. Anything to support the local fatwah councils. Blame it on the standard of our universities.

Headhunter: Honestly, I don't think the two kangkung psychologists knew who Sigmund Freud was. Even laymen like us know they are talking poppycock.

Tok Karut: Thank you for the studied opinion. Yes the two offending psychos have set aside whatever schooling they had and went back to their simplistic views, perhaps gained from their childhood years with sermons from untrained ustaz.

Swipenter: One can see that the authorities are now employing half-baked psychologists, psychiatrists and academicians to discredit "liberal" Muslims.

Funny, from what I can see, "liberal" Muslims are the most educated, intelligent, and pious, with the ability and intellect to evaluate and separate what is substance from what is form and rubbish.

Writers should not just act as "problem solvers" but challenge their readers in every way and tickle and arouse their curiosity in finding answers or even alternative solutions for themselves.

No wonder we are producing robotic and conformist students, graduates and academics that are lacking in critical and independent thinking.

Now you still wonder why our higher institutions of learning are at the bottom half of world rankings, and yet there are idiots who want to do away with benchmarking them with standards of excellence acceptable internationally.

Golfer63: For people who like Porche, Volkswagen, BMW, Mercedes Benz and Audi cars, let it be known they all come from the land of the Oktoberfest.

Also, it may be of interest to note that the country which keeps the Euro afloat ‑ Germany ‑ is where the Oktoberfest originated. Incidentally, all the advanced countries of the world have the tradition of 'toasting' with alcoholic beverages.

Fair Play: The underlying ailment in this nation is that everything is being viewed, dissected and must be in compliance with the religious beliefs and practices of the majority community. This fundamental flaw is what really inhibits the nation from moving forward as one.

The saddest part is that time is not on our side in today's ever changing environment. As the saying goes ‑ by not moving, you are left behind

Brahem Apek: These doctors say organising social events is anti‑social? That's new!

Kader: Other than the word 'change', everything else changes. We should question everything. Who needs stupid teachers?

After beer and dogs, critics go after Halloween

Odysseus: Come November, shopping malls, restaurants and entertainment outlets will start having Christmas decorations and playing Christmas songs. Will these fanatics start to cause problems?

If they do, I do hope the government would put a stop to this and business operators must stand‑up against it. This sort of craziness must end. Perhaps business operators can put up a big sign informing the patrons that Christmas decorations will be everywhere and songs will be played.

Let them decide if they should enter the premise or not.

2Kali5: What about movies, books, comics and others on pontianaks, ghosts and other supernatural myths that are being openly advertised? Are they any different from Halloween?

Whom does such light entertainment hurt other than those hereon above mentioned? In my view, the local practice of bomohs and witchcraft is even worse.

Ratbatblue: I agree that this country is already a "gone case" as far as the resident non‑Muslims are concerned. A lunatic fringe seems to be running the day to day affairs of the country and the incumbent ruling party and their sidekicks (representing non-Muslims generally) appear dumb and blind to these shenanigans, because it helps their political agenda.

The 'PM in absentia' appears more eloquent away from home than here, and his cabinet seems to nurture the actions of the fringe. This is not a good thing as there is a gradual shift towards Islamisation which is now not very obvious, but which I feel is gaining steady momentum as there is no one in power to check its progress.

Before one realises it, it will present itself at the doorstep and demand entry, and no one will have the means to face it. I t has happened elsewhere and due to the apparent helplessness of the authorities and absolute silence of moderate Muslims in these matters, this scenario is a distinct possibility.

Anonymous_3e86: The terrorist organisation Isis has arrived. Soon, Chinese New Year, Christmas and Deepavali celebrations will see these extremists protesting again.

Freethinker: These extremists are creeping into our lives day by day and with unhindered advance, and government silence will only encourage them to do more. What's next? Christmas?

Geronimo: The next one in which they will make a hue and cry will be Christmas, and they will ask, "What the organisers' motives to celebrate Christmas?"

YUNoAnon: They'll ask to ban Christmas, Chinese New Year, Deepavali and all others because these will confuse them. A real pity that these people have no sense of identity and are easily misled. No wonder they've been taken advantage of by their own leaders.

Boonpou: Do keep them coming, you extremist Islamic groups. Now I don't even have to bring my children to a circus anymore. It is right here on the news. Hooray Malaysia, for giving to us free of charge before we are asked to pay sales taxes for these side/freak shows.

Anonymous_1388755032: Guys, all these sideshows/distractions are intended so that the rakyat will slowly forget about the upcoming GST, fuel price hikes, higher costs of living, Islamic terrorist activities, government wastage etc. and focus on petty things.

JustAMalaysian: I am beginning to think that the country is being ruled by the likes of Isma, not BN or Pakatan. Honest, that's how I really, really feel.
