PARLIAMENT The government will table a White Paper to “inform” the people on the terror threat involving Malaysians, the Home Ministry said in a written answer in Parliament.

Responding to a question from Ko Chung Sen (DAP-Kampar), the ministry is “preparing” the White Paper but did not state the exact date that the paper will be tabled.

Meanwhile, the ministry also confirmed that 167 Malaysians had been involved in militant activities overseas since 2001 until now, with 39 of them having joined the Islamic State (IS) militant organisation in Iraq and Syria.

Recently, there had been growing concerns about the involvement of Malaysians in the jihadist militant movement in Iraq and Syria, whose acts of terror has drawn widespread international criticism.

Malaysia has declared IS as a terrorist organisation and had also condemned the group’s actions while discouraging Malaysians from joining such movements in the future.

However, the ministry refused to divulge details of how Malaysians are involved with IS and militant organisations as it would “affect” police investigations on the matter.
