Two container ships which were docked in Westport, Port Klang caught fire at about 7.30pm yesterday.

However, no casualties were reported.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department operations mobilisation unit officer Ahmad Aidil Ab Majid said the department received an emergency call at 7.38pm and a team which arrived at the scene at 8.17pm towed one of the ships about one kilometre out to sea from the wharf to prevent the fire from spreading.

“Another ship is still at Wharf 20 and work to put out the fire is still being carried out, but no casualties were involved in the incident,” he said in an SMS message last night.

As of 10pm the operation to put out the fire was still being conducted and further information on the status of the ships is still not available.
