Johorians are being affected by the poor quality of drinking water, said Kluang MP Liew Chin Tong.

 

He added in order to solve this problem, a Clean Drinking Water Act is needed.

 

“The water quality in Kluang is quite bad. I was informed the government has plans to formulate a clean drinking water act, yet the bill has not been openly discussed yet,” he said in a statement today.

 

Debating during the 2015 Budget in Parliament at the policy level, Liew reiterated that the act is sorely needed so that the quality of water supplied to the masses is constantly maintained.

 

Since beginning of the year, the DAP MP said he the people of Johor have been plagued with all sorts of water problems, which includes the terrible quality of drinking water which is often smelly and yellow tinged.

 

In September, Kulai MP Teo Nie Ching ( left ), quoting the Interim National Quality Standards (INWQS) said that Johor's rivers are so polluted that it ranks as the country's most water polluted state .

 

INWQS, which measures the quality of water in Malaysia, indicated that eight of Johor's waterways sits in Class IV, where rivers are unlivable for fishes and other marine organisms.
