Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak does not need political rivals like Pakatan Rakyat if he has someone like former finance minister Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah within the BN and Umno fold, a PAS member said today.

PAS research centre director Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad was referring to Tengku Razaleigh, who is fondly known as Ku Li, criticising the 2015 federal budget by Najib in Parliament last week, in which the latter also urged the postponement of the goods and services tax (GST).

Ku Li effectively became the first member of the ruling coalition to criticise the timing of the new tax system which has been long opposed by Pakatan Rakyat, and Dzulkefly wondered how Najib would react to the criticism.

"What are the justifications and arguments that they will put up now?" he asked.

"If Najib has a friend like Ku Li in BN, he does not need enemies like Pakatan Rakyat," he said.

In a statement today, Dzulkefly ( right ) fully backed Ku Li's letter on the budget, which was not read out in Parliament but was instead sent individually to every MP in the Lower House and also to the speaker.

Dzulkefly said that if Najib went ahead with his fiscal plans despite the concerns raised so far, he would be seen as someone who is "not rational".

"Is it now fair for Najib to postpone GST?" he further questioned.
