PAS has threatened to sue Umno secretary-general Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor for accusing the Islamic party of heresy.

According to Harakahdaily , PAS information chief Mahfuz Omar said the party is referring to its legal bureau for further action.

"We condemn Tengku Adnan's statement, which accuses PAS of being a political party that spreads deviant teaching and misleading the faith of Muslims.

"We will seek advice from our legal bureau to consider legal action against the Umno secretary-general," Mahfuz ( right ) is quoted as saying.

Tengku Adnan, more popularly known as Ku Nan, yesterday accused PAS of deviant teachings and declared Umno to be the only party that can defend Islam.

This is not the first incident of its kind as the Selangor Islamic Religious Council (Mais) had in July issued a fatwa declaring NGO Sisters in Islam (SIS) as "deviant".

The fatwa states other similar organisations that subscribe to liberalism and pluralism to have deviated from Islam as well.

Furthermore, it says, all materials relating to liberalism and pluralism should be confiscated and banned.

Last Friday, SIS said it will file a judicial review over the matter.
