PAS Youth continued with its attacks on Sisters in Islam (SIS) today, accusing the non-governmental organisation of promoting Jewish and Christian thinking.

The movement’s deputy chief Muhammad Khalil Abdul Hadi said in a statement that PAS Youth is adamant that any activities by SIS to spread liberal thinking on the name of Islam are clearly deviant.

“What is clear is that SIS also attacks the belief of Muslims by spreading Jewish and Christianity thinking by stating that all humans are sons of Allah. This shows that SIS had rejected Allah as the only one as stipulated in the Al-Ikhlas chapter,” Khalil said.

The fatwa (Islamic edict) gazetted against SIS declares the movement to be “deviant” for subscribing to “religious liberalism and pluralism” and it further states that other similar organisations have likewise strayed from Islam.

Khalil ( right ) said the existence of was the result of deviant thinking that originated from American scholar Amina Wadud, who, he said, is considered a deviant by almost all religious scholars.

“This deviant thinking brought by Amina has resulted in controversy all over the world and now it has spread here, with the SIS struggle.

“By fighting feminist issues, which SIS is struggling for, this group is seen to be more brave to challenge basic Islamic principles adopted by Ahli Sunnah Wal Jamaah and for criticising efforts to implement Islamic policies on Muslims in the country, like requiring women to wear the tudung (headgear) in Kelantan.

“SIS is challenging the fatwa by the Selangor Islamic council,” Khalil said.

'SIS challenging state religious authorities'

SIS last Friday filed a judicial review challenging the edict issued by Mais.

Khalil expressed regret over the SIS action, saying it was a challenge to the state religious authorities and contradicted with the openness concept SIS was fighting for by failing to respond to or explain the allegations made about it being deviant.

“They are only hiding and giving reasons based on freedom of speech and expression.

“Hence, the action for SIS to be banned is justified and there should not be any compromise. Following this, PAS Youth supports the Mais fatwa,” the PAS Youth deputy chief added.
