Former consultant editor of The Sun , Zainon Ahmad, was today awarded a posthumous doctorate degree by University Selangor (Unisel) at its ninth convocation in Kuala Selangor.

The award, received by his daughter, Zalinda, was presented by Unisel chancellor Arshad Raja Tun Uda.

Unisel vice-chancellor Prof Anuar Ahmad told reporters that Zainon was given the award for his contributions to journalism.

"He had vast experience and respected by media practitioners," Anuar told reporters after the convocation ceremony.

A total of 2,691 graduates received their scrolls at this year's convocation.

Meanwhile, Muhammad Faiz Mat Zauki, 24, who received the Chancellor's Award, attributed his success to determination and diligence.

"If we know what we want, we will work hard to achieve it. Focus in class and sharing of knowledge also contribute to my success," he added.

Yasmin Abdul Manan, 24, who used to be an intern at the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) was awarded the Vice-Chancellor's Award. She graduated with a bachelor's degree in journalism.
