Honda Motor Co is recalling 170,000 more vehicles worldwide after a report of a driver’s death in Malaysia involving an airbag manufactured by Takata Corp, the carmaker said today.

Of the total, about 99,902 units are being recalled overseas and 70,797 in Japan, a Honda spokesperson said.

A malfunctioning inflator in the airbag may cause it to rupture and spray metal fragments, Honda said.

In late October, US regulators urged the owners of 7.8 million cars, including 5 million made by Honda, to “act immediately” on recall notices to replace the airbags made by Takata.
