The government has spent RM 33.4 million in its recovery and emergency operations on the two aviation tragedies that hit the country this year.

 

The Transport Ministry revealed the amount used on the search and recovery for MH370 and MH17 in a written answer in Parliament to Ng Wei Aik (DAP-Tanjong) today.

 

The ministry also said that 3,700 civil servants were involved in the search and recovery operations for both tragedies.

 

All other countries participating in the process funded their own operations, it stated.

 

MH370 disappeared en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing on March 8 this year and the plane is yet to be found, though it is believed to have crashed in the Indian Ocean.

 

MH17 was shot down while it was flying over the Ukrainian airspace en route from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur on July 17, by what is believed to be a ground-to-air missile.

 

MH370 had 239 people on board, mostly Chinese nationals, while MH17 had 298 people on board. 

 

Everyone on board MH17 perished in the tragedy.
