A student who launched a RM81,421 (12,924 British pounds) lawsuit against his estranged father to pay for his education at a British university had his case thrown out today.

Foo Dui Geng, 23, was seeking the 12,924 pounds in tuition fees, 2,600 pounds for accommodation and 3,484 pounds in expenses from Foo Won Keat, 46, the Bernama news agency said.

Judicial Commissioner Balia Yusof Wahi threw the case out as the law states financial support need only be provided for children below 18 years of age, except for those suffering physical or mental disability, Bernama said.

Foo ( pix ) was ordered to pay RM3,000 to his father in costs.

Foo filed the suit on Sept 11 last year after his father refused to pay for his university fees, resulting in him not being able to pursue his degree course in Britain.

Bernama said it was the first time in Malaysia that a person had sued his father for education fees. - AFP
