The PAS Youth in Terengganu is up in arms to save 22 houses facing eviction in Kampung Banggol Donas due to a highway project from Kampung Jeram to Kampung Banggol Tuan Muda.

According to PAS Youth chief Suhaizan Kaiat, the wing had even suggested two alternative routes that the government has not looked at.

“The first alternative route would be shorter and only involves five houses, but is through the land of a former Village Security and Development Committee (JKKK) family.

“The second alternative route is through a vacant land that has no houses but is owned by a corporate company,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Suhaizan ( right ) added that the project did not adhere by the Land Acquisition Act 1960 (Act 486) procedures including starting construction before the gazetted construction date.

“The project was gazetted to begin on October 18 2010 under Section 8 but the construction begun much earlier. There is photographic evidence that the project commenced on July 18 2010 (which is three months earlier).”

He also said there were discrepancies in the cost of the project, where the allocated budget is much more costly than the East Coast Expressway Phase 2 project making it the costliest road works project in Terengganu.

“The average cost of a kilometre of this project is RM 29.736 million. The average cost for one kilometre of the East Coast Expressway Phase 2 project was RM 23.1 million.

“Which means the average cost for one kilometre of the road from Kampung Jeram to Kanpung Bonggol Tuan Muda is more expensive by RM 7.399 million making it the most expensive road works project in Terengganu. This unusual cost raises doubts.”

Suhaizan urged the government to take immediate action on this and give justice towards the villagers of Kampung Bonggol Donas whom are rightful land owners with grants.

“The PAS Youth of Malaysia is sympathetic towards the plight of the villagers in Kampung Banggol Donas. The allocated laws and the federal constitution have been breached and their lands are being robbed from them.”
