Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak had broken an electoral pledge by removing fuel subsidies beginning next month, Wanita PKR chief Zuraida Kamaruddin said today.

“If the people remembered, the PM promised no increase for petrol prices during his election campaign,” Zuraida said in a statement today.

“Does he have amnesia or does he simply break promises all the time?” she asked further.

She also said that there is no reason to “cheer or celebrate” about the subsidy removal.

“The BN government always compares our country’s oil prices to countries that do not produce oil,” she said.

Zuraida said that the profits Malaysia is making by selling higher quality oil to other countries and importing lower grade petrol for domestic use here, is not being channeled back to the people.
