A group of Templer Park residents have submitted a memorandum to the Selangor government calling for a halt to a housing and commercial project in the forest reserve.

Templer Park Federation of Housing Residents Associations chairperson Mukhtar Ismail said the project had destroyed the flora in the area, which used to be a water catchment area.

“The project developer should not only think of making lucrative profit at the expense of the environment.

“Residents fear that landslides and flash floods will occur if the slopes are continued to be cleared for development of the project,” he told reporters in Shah Alam today.

The memorandum was submitted to the political secretary to the Selangor menteri besar, Mat Shuhaimi Shafei at a peaceful assembly in front of the State Secretariat building entrance.

The residential and commercial project in Selayang began in 2011 on a 260 acres site that houses natural heritage including the Kanching Waterfall.
