The number of flood victims in Teluk Intan has risen to 359 as at 8am today from 336 yesterday with one temporary flood evacuation centre opened at Masjid Jamek Air Hitam.

Perak Hilir district Civil Defence Department officer Mohd Fazly Mohamad Zawawi said 23 victims from 10 families were placed at the evacuation centre while another 336 were staying at Sekolah Kebangsaan Changkat Jong.

“The water level at Sungai Bidor has reached 15.75 metres and the affected residents are from two settlements at Kampung Air Hitam and Kampung Tengah,” he said when contacted by Bernama in Ipoh today.

He said 23 victims from 10 families were staying at Masjid Jamek Air Hitam and those in Sekolah Kebangsaan Changkat Jong involved 99 families.

“The water level in Changkat Jong has also increased to 3.56 metres from 3.31 metres yesterday afternoon, with residents affected from four areas, namely  Lorong Mesra in Batu 7, Lorong Kedah in Batu 8, Lorong in Batu 11 and Kampung Batu 9,” he said.

This is the second time Changkat Jong has been hit by floods in two weeks after Sungai Bidor broke its banks due to heavy rain.

Meanwhile, in KUALA TERENGGANU, the number of flood victims placed at the evacuation centre still remained at 234 from 53 families as at this morning.    

According to the Terengganu National Security Council portal, they were staying at SK Kompleks Gong Badak.

Meanwhile, the weather in Kuala Terengganu today remained clear.
