Seventeen people from six households have moved out of the ‘Rumah Rakyat’ settlement of Kampung Panchor where a landslide last Wednesday affected 17 houses, according to the Negri Sembilan Fire and Rescue Department.

Its chief, Norazam Khamis, said 10 more people from three households would evacuate soon.

“The fire and rescue service is in the process of helping the households to move out. We are also conducting patrols every two hours to detect any earth movement,” he told Bernama .

Norazam said a meeting to be held between the State Disaster Relief Committee and the Minerals and Geoscience Department would make a decision on when to allow the occupants to return to their homes.

Meanwhile, Negri Sembilan Welfare Department director Abdullah Hanapi said that as of 6pm yesterday, only two people had put up at the evacuation centre at the Seri Perdana People’s Housing Programme in Paroi.

“The Welfare Department provides basic necessities such as blankets and cooked food for those moving into the centre.

“If the number of evacuees is big, the department will open an evacuation centre at Sekolah Kebangsaan Paroi,” he said.

The landslide at about 3pm last Wednesday affected 17 houses located along Jalan Mahsuri 1, Jalan Murni and Jalan Ria 1. No one was injured in the mishap.
