A new narrative from Umno general assembly

YOURSAY ‘It is not that Umno does not know why it lost the Chinese support.’

Forget Chinese votes, says Umno delegate

Myrights: In 1999, it was the Chinese community which saved Umno during the Reformasi movement when Malays threw their support behind the opposition.

To win back the Malay votes, Umno created non-existent threats, particularly from the Chinese and Christians, to instill fear among the Malays.

The Chinese, who just wanted to get by in their daily lives and minding their own business, suddenly found themselves attacked relentlessly by the same Umno they saved. Keris raising, shouts of pendatang, ‘balik Cina’, May 13, were the theme ever since.

It is not that Umno does not know why it lost the Chinese support but they want Malay votes more.

They have now realised that the young, educated Malays have risen above racial policies. So Umno is doomed if they continue this path and their leaders know it, but they can’t control their warlords.

Odysseus: Perak Umno delegate Mohd Radzi Manan must conduct an honest self-analysis why the non-Malay voters have turned into 'pasir' (sand).

They were BN supporters in the past. They saved BN during the early Reformasi days. So, what has gone wrong since then?

Abasir: Congratulations Mohd Radzi. You have reaffirmed what so many out there have been telling poodles such as Gerakan Youth chief Tan Keng Liang that they are not needed.

But being obedient poodles, they hang around the Umno table wagging their tails hoping for a few crumbs to drop. If you want them to go away, just ignore them. Like what PM Najib Razak did.

No need to consult them on policy matters and when making U-turns. Let them find out like the rest of the people who know Umno for what it is.

Anonymous: Mohd Radzi, you have hit the nail on the head. Umno will continue to lose more Chinese votes, and many more Malays will vote for Pakatan Rakyat, if Umno continues to harp on race, religion and privileges (RRP).

In deeds and actions Pakatan, especially DAP, is projecting a true Malaysian image that is above RRP, which Umno failed to implement during its 50 plus years in power.

In the recent Teluk Intan by-election, we saw a young Malay from an Umno family standing in a traditionally Chinese seat. Umno's salvation is only if they fight against corruption, but they cannot do this because many of the preachers of RRP may end up behind bars.

As a senior citizen, I am no longer troubled by this annual Umno ‘sandiwara’ of hot air and fist salutes. It only strengthens my resolve to work for change that will put the corrupt behind bars.

Disgusted: They think if they can secure 52 percent of Malay votes by frightening them with allegations of Chinese and Christians taking control of the country, they can retain the government to continue with their corrupt rule forever.

God help this country if all Malays think like Umnoputras and take their bait hook, line and sinker.

Doc: Umno leaders have been told not to waste their time in getting Chinese votes as it will be a futile effort, said Mohd Radzi.

Finally, there seem to be at least one Umno leader with an ounce of brain to realise that the Chinese voters are lost to Umno.

Anonymous #40538199: You just cannot get those whom you keep branding as the enemy to your race and religion to vote for you. Wrong strategy. You have to embrace them to regain the trust.

'Umno made profits by selling Malay kampungs'

Ratbatblue: It is incomprehensible how an accusation could be made without substantial proof.

Penang CM Lim Guan Eng (LGE) is seen holding a piece of paper while explaining the sale of land in Balik Pulau, presumably. The Wanita Umno member who made the accusation of land grabbing in Balik Pulau was probably only holding a microphone.

I do not think that it is so easy to swipe ancestral land and sell it off as this woman has alleged. Even if true, what were the "representatives" of these native landowners doing as this was being done?

In Malacca, the state government is going to take back all the land in the historical zone which does not have documents supporting ownership.

Even documents showing the transfer of ownership from previous colonial masters (e.g. the Dutch) to locals may become invalid under some land codes.

So, without proof, how can these accusations against the Penang government be made?

Snake-in-the-grass: Those people have been selling their land, culture, and dignity and their nation, for as long as anyone can remember.

David: Yes, Guan Eng. Politicise this matter to the maximum to make sure that Malays in general are aware of the evil lies and deceit of Umno.

It has come to a point where you can't fight rogues on gentlemen's terms any more.
