The Malacca and Johor MCA secretaries were sworn in today as senators in the Dewan Negara.
Koh Chin Han, 44, and Chia Song Cheng, 62, took their oath of office before Dewan Negara president Abu Zahar Ujang.
Koh, who is a special secretary of the Malacca chief minister, told reporters he would focus on issues related to Chinese education and schools.
“I want to show that Chinese education is no obstacle to national unity,” he said.
He also said that he would seek to obtain more allocations for tourism in Malacca from the Tourism and Culture Ministry as Malacca did not have natural resources and depended heavily on tourism.
Chia, meanwhile, said he would focus on issues pertaining to the maintenance of flats and housing estates.
He is an adviser to several associations, among them the Johor Baru branch of the Malaysian Red Crescent Society and the Johor Baru Petty Traders and Hawkers Association.
