SENATE Police have opened 14 investigation papers pertaining to offences associated with the spread of untruths in the social and cyber websites, the Dewan Negara was told today.

Deputy Home Minister Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar said, out of the total, five cases were under investigation and two cases had been prosecuted in court.

“For the cases brought to court, one case is still being heard with a bail of RM4,000 while one case has been imposed with a fine of RM10,500 on Nov 20, 2014,” he said when replying to Senator Mohd Ali Mohd Rustam.

Meanwhile replying to a supplementary question from Senator Adam Abdul Hamid on security in the waters off the Eastern Sabah Security Zone (Esszone), Wan Junaidi said the government had given assurance that the area was safe.

However, he said the government would constantly take precautionary steps such as equipping security personnel with sophisticated equipment to face any eventualities.

Replying to an original question from Senator Chin Su Phin, Wan Junaidi said 10,969 Sabahans served with the police force up to last October.

From the total, 826 were senior police officers, 9,064 from rank-and-file and 1,079 civil servants, he said.

“The police always welcome the participation of other races to join the force because the task of defending the nation’s security was a collective responsibility nationwide,” he said.
