Anwar, a man of the folk does not need titles

YOURSAY ‘A title is a title... the heart and soul of a good person is what matters.’

Sultan strips Anwar's datukship over MB fiasco

Not Smart: Today there are only very few who are accorded titles who are honest, sincere, trustworthy and God-fearing, but by and large the majority of those who had been accorded titles are perceived as crooks.

This is because the manner and to whom it is being accorded.

Indeed, many people in the very few category feel that calling them with such titles only puts them in the majority category and most of them will humbly request not to be addressed by the titles.

Encik Anwar Ibrahim, titles are only window-dressing and worldly glory. The rakyat favours you to other leaders not because of your titles but your tireless efforts to bring justice, a harmonious nation for all races and to eradicate corruption and croynism.

Don't lose sleep over the lost of this title as questions will not be asked about them in the next world but on what you have done for the people as a leader.

What4: The people who mastermind the issuance of fake ICs in Sabah were given datukships and a tunship. Don't forget, Allah is watching.

Real Truth: Whether PKR de facto leader Anwar is a Datuk Seri or not, Anwar is a leader par excellence. He is erudite compared to all other leaders and is an invited guest globally by Islamic scholars and liberal educationists.

There is nobody in Malaysia to match his oratory including his nemesis Mahathir Mohamad. Nelson Mandela, Martin Luther King and Mahatma Gandhi did not carry any honourific, so does our Anwar Ibrahim.

Anonymous #62211637: No worries... a title is a title... the heart and soul of a good person is what matters.

CQ Muar: If I'm not mistaken, the former premier and founder of Singapore, Lee Kuan Yew, was awarded with a distinguished Malaysian title, but preferred to be addressed as Mr Lee Kuan Yew, and had never used the prefix until today - so, what's the big deal?

Throughout Malaysia, the country is so inundated with Tan Sris, Datuk Sris ... so common that someone standing next to you anywhere could just be a datuk. There is no need to elaborate on how easily such conferments come by nowadays. Money talks.

In this context, Anwar shouldn't even give it a thought or be bothered. We all respect you as a great leader with or without a title. Soldier on, Mr Anwar.

Doc: Yes, I'm sure Anwar is devastated.

Fair Play: Doc, looks like you might be the one who would be devastated as it was reported elsewhere in Malaysiakini that Anwar has seven other awards that permit him to use the title Datuk Seri.

BernieBaby: There is sarcasm in Doc's comment.

Lamps: Encik Anwar Ibrahim. A man of the people, by the people and for the people. He does not need a title to fight for us against this cruel and corrupt regime.

Commentable: Dear Anwar, I have not met you personally throughout my life, but from my understanding of you and the terrible and drastic persecution against you, it now stands clear that you are truly a man to be reckoned with.

You have been stripped time and again, literally from the moment when you were sent to prison right to the present day when even your title is stripped.

Yet you stand firm and resolute as the opposition leader, when logically speaking you could have got everything you ever wanted.

This is something that the other side cannot understand, the more they try to do you in, the more you stand taller. Respect is earned and not given on a silver platter.

Democrat: Even his underwear has been stripped off, so this won't hurt. Titles don't add to being a better human being anyway. So many datuks are still maintaining theirs even though they have been convicted or were caught in a pornographic tape, etc, etc.

Fair Play: Everyone has his time. For some, it is yet to come.

Peacemaker: Stripping him of the title is the greatest award for Anwar for courageously questioning for the betterment of the nation and people.

He is an elected opposition leader, a well-respected leader who speaks without fear or favour. He holds the special title in the people's hearts - "saviour and hope".

Anwar, please carry on with the struggles and trust more people will join you.

Baiyuensheng: Anyway, only those cling to vain desires will go for the title and feel pain when losing it. Ever wonder why DAP stalwarts Lim Kit Siang and the late Karpal Singh have no titles?

Swipenter: Character and integrity of any person is worth more than anything else.

Isana: Only insecure and egoistic people crave for a title. Some of these people are even willing to 'purchase' titles in the sum of few hundred thousand ringgits.

Let's see whether these titles can open heaven's door for them. From their lifestyle, most of them are heading in the opposite direction.

Chang Lau: Luckily his still got ‘ketum’ (ketua umum or de facto leader) title.
