Sabah PAS wants culprits who issue birth certificates and identification cards to illegal immigrants to be sentenced to death by hanging.

 

Its PAS deputy commissioner III Hamid Ismail said that this is because such action is an “act of treason”.

 

“They are traitors. They sell our state and this nation for their own profit,” he said in a statement today in response to the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) report on Sabah immigrants.

 

Urging the federal government to amend the relevant criminal acts, Hamid said the new law should apply throughout the country as its nature is similar to the offences in Chapter 6 of the Penal Code, which are offences against the state.

 

The RCI, early this week, had cleared the government and political parties from involvement in the mass issuance of citizenship to migrants in Sabah.

 

Instead, the report pinpointed to syndicates involving former National Registration Department officials as the culprits who raked in millions of ringgit.

 

‘Instil moral values, love for Sabah’

 

Hamid, meanwhile, believes that instilling moral values and the spirit of loving Sabah and the nation in Sabah public officers will ensure that they never ‘sell’ the country “even for RM1 billion or more”.

 

“They will also never comply with orders from their corrupt superiors whose orders could endanger Sabah.

 

“Therefore, all government departments in Sabah must conduct an official once a week religious lecture according to everyone’s religion in their office premises,” he said, adding that the lecture should be made compulsory to all public officers from every posts.

 

He pointed out that tightening immigration and registration laws would be useless if those responsible for enforcing it are corrupt.

 

“Also, public officers must ignore those politicians who ‘stand’ between them and the illegal immigrants,” he said, citing statements from district officers during the RCI inquiry that would prove the existence of political elements that disturb the demolition process of squatters’ houses.

 

Urging the state government to be prompt in solving the illegal immigrant issue, Hamid said it should not wait for solutions from the federal government.

 

“The federal government merely promised solution to the illegal immigrant problem yet they didn’t do it.

 

“It was only near the last general election that they announced the establishment of the RCI,” he said.
